Hurricane Gustav

Satellite Images

The satellite presentation of Hurricane Gustav has deteriorated slightly between Sat into Sunday. There is noticeable deep convection near the center of the storm with great outflow in all quadrants. The eye continues to look slightly better with each satellite pass as well. This is a truly dangerous hurricane.

while the world's news focus is planted firmly on Gustav, the floods in Northern India have claimed at least 1000 lives and counting... This will possibly exceed the death toll resultant from Katrina... Spare a thought and a prayer it's not always about us, aaiii ....

Best Wishes to everyone in the path of Gustav. I have friends in New Orleans so I always pay very close attention to what's happening over there. I just hope it's nothing on the scale of Katrina!

Nick from Netherlands: Thank you so much for kind, humane words at a time of difficulty. I wish the world was full of people like you. Hope you have a great day, and by the way, your English is GREAT. Wishing you the best.
Just let you know a lot of people think about you

I am from the Netherlands, we know a bit how to handle water, but hurricanes are not common here ( just had a little one on the scale 2 in 40 years) just wanted to let you know that a lot of people are watching the news and we hope all the best for you people out there who are possible in danger when gustav arrives.
I am not a believer so I can't prey but in my heart all my love goes to you, there is maybe a lot of politic's around, but we are talking about people who don't ask for this,I hope nobody get hurt, oure thoughts are with you all ( sorry for my bad english )
Why are you all talking politics when theres a natural disaster vastly heading towards millions?

Ok guys i was just skimming down the page looking at the horrifying images further up the page, when i stumbled upon the comments section.
I understand theres a lot of political stuff going on right now. But seriously you all need to focus on the disaster at hand, politics cannot withstand mother nature and this really isant the time or the site to discuss that. So while you guys all think about whos doing what within the government spare a thought for the thousands/millions that are and will suffer because of this, because reguardless of whos in power at what time, there are and will still be people that will lose there homes and there memories things that cant be replaced even by the government. So i think its time that all countries unite in the event of this disaster as compassion and humanity towards one another is something we all have in common. Even the government!

Daniel, I'll have you know that the majority of Americans, living peacefully and happily in their communities, DO help their fellow Americans out in times of need. You've bought into the bitter left's depiction (perhaps from personal experience) of America as angry and mean. This is simply not the case for most of America. We have ALWAYS come through for our neighbors AND for our international friends. To suggest otherwise is folly and not supported by the facts.
Amazing??

I really can not fathom some Americans. Half of you don't vote and the other half are bitter and twisted about Rep v Demo. People are going to be left homeless, politics aside. Help your fellow Americans, there are people who will need your support and care in the coming days. Rather than ask What Would Obama Do? or What Would McCain Do? in the coming tragedy of Hurricane Gustav. Ask What You Will Do? Amazing to see the bickering and arguing in times of tribulations. You Yanks amaze the rest of the world.

"Our host has gone to extraordinary lengths to create one of the web's best storm-tracking websites."

Thanks for the compliment Copper! We are trying to continually provide the most up-to-date information as this is a truly powerful storm. I hope residents of the southern Gulf Coast are taking this seriously. It is better to be safe than sorry.

What does it matter if a convention gets disrupted! Hurricane Gustav won't discriminate against the democrats or republicans. It'll flaten all of you, so ALL of you need to pull together to help all that's effected.
Politics when others faced with disaster

My prayers are with all of those that are faced yet again with disaster. Regardless of what is going on, about the only thing that would stop ANY Political Convention is the returning of Christ. Politics regardless of which party would continue during the hurricane.
As far as McCain goes and his choice for a running mate. I think it is a perfect decision. She is what we need, someone not corrupted by Washington. I'd vote for her for "President" over any canidate I have encountered. She is a breath of fresh air...and is REAL, like the rest of us.
Back to the Hurricane. Residents please leave, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. These postings shouldn't even have to mention the political views of citizens....Shame on our government, regardless of which party.
Hurricane or politics, both a disaster

So the mayor of new orleans and gov. of LA were democrats. Fema is responsible for disaster relief and run by an appointee of Bush. a large contributer to his campaign. Oh and don't forget, the national guard was largely in Iraq. The fresh new VP candidate for the rep. has all of 2 years experience as a gov. I will admit she probably would have done a better job than the Bush team at a hurricane relief effort. Oh did you here that McCain and she are just now meeting for the second time. Hell, McDonald's personally interviews their potential employees twice. Any how, we wish for the safety of all the people in the path of this hurricane. Take shelter, take care of each other.

Still blaming Republicans for Katrina when the Mayor, Governor and City officials were Democrats. Can't understand logic here.

The previous poster is absolutely correct- all the conventioneers and delegates have to do is empty their wallets of all the cash, credit & debit cards onto the floor of the XCel Center and then turn around and go back home and leave us in peace.

Contrary to this storm disrupting the Republican convention; it may serve as an asset to the Republican pro-temp nominees to turn the convention into a center for storm relief, reversing the blunders after Hurricane Katrina..... MK
