Hurricane Hanna has improved in organization today. It is currently under a mild strengthening phase. One inhibiting factor to rapid intensification, like we saw with Hurricane Gustav, is that Hanna is battling strong northerly wind shear aloft. Remember that hurricanes favor light winds aloft. A high pressure, with anticyclonic flow, aloft is the most favorable for rapid hurricane development. Over the next few days Hurricane Hanna is expected to drift over the Bahamas before shooting off toward the Georgia / South Carolina coast.
