HURRICANE IKE - LIVE COVERAGE FROM ABC 13 HOUSTON, TX

Hurricane Ike emerged into the Gulf of Mexico as a category 1 hurricane on Wednesday. The center of circulation remains is good shape. Therefore, Ike will begin rapidly strengthen back into a major hurricane with winds of at least 115 mph. The sea surface temps are very warm in the Gulf of Mexico, see link below, and the wind shear aloft is predicted to remain light. Several hurricane forecast weather models develop Ike into a category 4 hurricane by the weekend. The pressure of Hurricane Ike has already dropped enough to reflect that of a major hurricane as seen below, but the winds have to adjusted up YET. As Hurricane Ike gains steam in the Gulf, it will head for the Texas coast between Galveston and Matagorda Bay.
